Early visit to the Acropolis
The smartest tip for your city trip to Athens
The alarm goes off early, but you won’t regret it for a second. While the city slowly awakens, the Acropolis is already bathed in the most beautiful light of the day. The golden morning light over the ancient columns, the fresh early air, the ceremonial raising of the flag—these are the moments that stay with you.
Why visit the Acropolis early in the morning?
Honestly: others have discovered the secret too. But going early is still by far the smartest choice, for three reasons:
* Fewer crowds than during the hottest part of the day
* More pleasant temperatures, especially in summer when it can quickly rise above 35°C early in the morning
* The most beautiful light for photos — no filter can match the morning gold
The Acropolis opens daily at 08:00. Plan your visit as close to opening time as possible, and you’ll have most of the site almost to yourself.
